E-Learning: What Is It and How Does It Work?

After the late 2000s, technology has changed the demographics of a classroom erasing the geographical barrier. Mobile phones, laptops, and the internet give information to school children in the blink of an eye. Education has become cheaper and is available to a wide variety of audiences. It allows you to share e-learning tools such as PDFs, word documents, videos, and slideshows.

Being one of the best ICSE school in Uttarakhand, we make the use of such learning tools to help our students understand their lessons better.

E-learning is just like traditional learning, the only exception being that you learn or provide learning in the comfort of your own home. Many educators are now moving towards virtual learning since it is cost-effective and works without any barrier. Even if a student is sitting miles away, he can get easy access to study material through the internet. Also, the people who could not attend college due to various problems can easily attain knowledge via online courses and programs.

Given below are some of the benefits of e-learning:

• Zero Boundaries

Getting access to information has become all the more easy for students. One click of a button now lands you to various sites from where you can get a bucket full of information.

• No Time Restrictions

Learning isn’t restricted to 8-2 but has become more flexible. You can open google on your mobile phone or laptop at any time of the day and surf the internet for any study material.

• Cost Effective

If we compare traditional forms of learning to e-learning, the former proves to be inexpensive. A student can gain knowledge by repeating various lectures, which isn’t possible in a classroom.

• Provides a Plethora of Information

The internet gives you access to a number of websites. It means if you aren’t satisfied with one result, you always have an option to switch.

As a top 5 school in Dehradun, The Heritage School believes that technology has become a vital aspect of our day to day life. It will be beneficial for us if we embrace it and evolve with it.

Inculcating a Positive Mindset

There must be no one who wouldn’t have heard of the saying “is the glass half full or half empty?”, If your glass is always half empty you need to change the way you look at the glass, here is how we at Heritage, the best school in Dehradun have laid some inputs to change your mindset from negative to positive.

-Surround Yourself with Like-Minded People

Positivity is contagious, and thus surrounding yourself with people with whom you share a similar mindset is very important to build a network of people who spill positivity like confetti.

-Count Your Blessings

Your mornings must begin with you counting your blessings. You must thank god every morning for giving you a new day. Instead of crying over what you do not have, you should be thankful for all that you already have and are blessed with. You will be making the most out of what you have when you realize the value of your blessings.

-Visualize Success

As the law of attraction says, one must have that belief of success instilled in oneself even before its inception. One must constantly think of how he/she would become successful once they follow their instincts by positive thinking. All it takes is motivation by talking to your inner soul. And a belief that you deserve all the success.

-Meditate

Meditating is one of the best ways to achieve positive thinking. It helps to strengthen the mind and develop positive thinking skills thus enriching the inner soul.

-Do Not Cry Over Spilled Milk

One must never ponder over unpleasant happenings from the past. If you keep thinking about your past, you will keep stepping back and create a disturbance in our own life. It's only wise to let go of the bygones.

A healthy body is of no use if your mind is not healthy, to promote this idea we at Heritage, among the top 5 school in Dehradun ensure to instill the idea of positivity in our students.

Engagement and Learning – An Exploration

Engagement of students is a vital process of growth and success for students. Without engagement, there is no scope of deep learning to take place, effective teaching to happen, an expectation of a meaningful outcome, have real attainment or have quality progress. We at Heritage, among the top 10 schools in Dehradun, are a firm believer of quality education hence have laid out why we think engagement is an essential component of the learning process.

- Responsiveness

The engagement in the process of learning is the ‘noticing’ phase. It recognizes and deals with the levels of understanding of the learner, his/her awareness or recognition of the activity which determines the degree of responsiveness.

- Curiosity

The process involving further exploration or retreat by the learners lies in determining curiosity generated in them. Try questioning yourself with something like “do you feel the desire of a learner to explore further?” and how does the learner display his/her curiosity i.e. by raising questions.

- Discovery

This revolves around if the learner demonstrates discovery skills within an activity or the process of learning. To incur if there is an element of realization or surprise within the learner’s application and interpretation process.

- Persistence

The learner must demonstrate a continued effort within the occurrence of the activity. It usually involves activities that include overcoming of difficulties or conditions that usually make the learners disengage from learning.

- Initiation

This involves whether the learner is able to express his/her initiation to take up something new. If the learners are keen on expressing their urge to try something new he/she has developed an interest in the key area and thus initiates to grow and learn further.

We at Heritage, the best ICSE school in Uttarakhand promise to develop a program to ensure your child’s holistic growth and thus conquer any obstacles that come along.

Clive on Learning

Education is the process to impart knowledge, being learners however is a totally different ball game. As the best ICSE school in Uttarakhand, we believe the true test of any institution is to create learners. Students who truly appreciate all that the world has to offer and want to know more about it.

Getting good marks should never be the only thing a student aspires for but rather they should be taught the importance of knowledge. This is not to say there aren’t any tried and tested methods to perform well in school even though you might feel you can’t.

Organization

Think out your schedule at least a week in advance and then stick to it. This schedule doesn’t have to be extensive. Just a rough draft works perfectly fine.

Write

It is always more effective to write things down to ensure that the retention is high. It also helps you in staying organized.

Review

It is essential that you review information on the same day that you learn it as it would make it much easier to sort what you have and what you haven’t understood allowing you to concentrate on getting clarity on concepts.

Avoid Multitasking

When it comes to studying there is no multitasking but rather just switching between tasks. So instead of trying to take on too much in one go. Concentrate on one subject at a time to cover more ground.

Believe

Learning isn’t genetics but rather the belief that I can. The moment you think that you would be unable to learn a certain task is where you lose. So trust in your abilities to perform.

Sleep

Being well rested is essential. You might feel as if you are invincible but lack of sleep can act as a great hindrance to your goal to learn well.

Notes

Always take notes during class in any way that you feel comfortable. These don’t have to pretty or tidy they just ensure that you pay attention and understand concepts a lot better.

These steps might look hard at the first glance but we at The Heritage School, counted among the best ICSE schools in Dehradun, believe that every student is capable of becoming an exceptional learner and we ensure that every student finds a strategy that works well for them.

Catering to Individual Needs of Students

Each child is different. It not only implies the color of their eyes or their hair texture but also on how they perform in the class. Some students learn better when the teacher reads aloud in the class while others find it uninteresting. For a teacher, it is crucial to keep every child’s need in mind while teaching.

Deemed as one of the best ICSE schools in Uttarakhand, we at The Heritage School, are here with a few advises which will help teachers cater to the individual needs of students.

• One-to-one communication is very essential to know what each child needs. Teachers can hold sessions in which they ask the students about their preferences. Give attention to each child by asking frequent questions in the class during lectures.

• Before the commencement of the lecture devote 10 minutes to discuss things that matter. The discussion can be on the local news, ideas or personal experiences. Be open to their suggestions as well.

• Teachers should discuss different strategies to help children come out of their comfort zone when they sit together. They should scrutinize what they observe in the students.

•  School is a temple of knowledge. A teacher should enter the class keeping this thing in mind and make a positive impact on the students.

•  A teacher should give assignments considering the capacity of a child.

•  Each child should feel welcomed and appreciated. There should be no room for bias.

• By giving appropriate feedback, you allow students to know where they lack and how they can improve.

• Encourage students to participate individually in the tasks.

• Motivate each child to perform well. A soft pat on the back can make a huge difference.

• Each child learns at his own pace. Let them take their time but make sure you aren’t too lenient.

As the top school in Dehradun, we at The Heritage School, ensure our teachers connect with each and every child and help them turn into a successful person.

Make Teaching Stress Free

Teaching isn’t an easy job. It challenges you every day. Being a teacher you are expected to devote yourself to the students’ needs and it can get a little overwhelming at times. As the best ICSE school in Dehradun, we at The Heritage School, make sure that our teachers get enough opportunities to evolve and grow with time.

Here are a few tips for teachers to reduce stress:

• Think of all the reasons why you love teaching in the first place.

• Do not take things personally. Students tend to test your patience at times. Do not lose your calm.

• Take accountability of your actions. If you have made someone upset, whether it is a fellow colleague or student, apologize and ask him what can you do to make things better.

• Find some time for yourself and relax after the classes. Take a stroll or sit in silence during recess. While you are taking a break, do not think of all the tasks you have to complete by the end of the day.

• Make learning fun by incorporating games and activities that help you and the students detach from all the stress. Share laughter with your students and find happiness in small things.

• During holidays make sure to indulge in some “me time”. Make a plan to visit your favorite place with your friends and family. Join a yoga class or indulge in other activities.

• Make sure to exercise for at least 15-20 minutes in the morning. It will help you stay active for the whole day.

• If you feel stressed or overwhelmed make sure to talk to somebody who shares the same interest, i.e., teaching. This will help you see things through the other person’s perspective.

While molding the students to become the best version of themselves, sometimes teachers neglect themselves and fall into the pit of stress. It is important for them to attend workshops that polish their skills and help them find contentment in whatever work they do. As one of the top 10 schools in Dehradun, at The Heritage School, we make sure that teachers remain happy and satisfied while teaching the students.

Involving Kids In Decision Making

Children are the future of the nation. If children are allowed to make decisions for themselves when they are young, they’ll be able to make better judgments about a  certain situation and act according when they grow up.

It all depends on how well we involve them while making an important decision that has something to do with their life. From choosing which outfit to wear and which toy to play with, children make various decisions in a day. This skill needs to be polished every now and then to help them get ready for major future decisions, like choosing courses or colleges.

The Heritage School, topping the list of ICSE schools in Dehradun, has come up with certain tips to help parents involve their kids while making a decision.

• Let Your Child Take Lead: From letting him order food while you are at a restaurant and letting him choose the kind of clothes he wants to wear, encourage your child to start small. This will make him confident enough and he’ll be able to put his ideas forth.

• Focus On Your Child’s Interest: Having an interest over what your child wants gives you get an insight into his thought process. This will help you acknowledge his ideas.

• Communication: If you don’t allow healthy communication to propel between you and your child there may be hindrances while making decisions.

• Make Every Day A Learning: Tell your child about various aspects of one situation. Just like every coin has two sides, every decision has a positive and negative effect. Make your child aware of both.

• Teach Them Values: When you teach your kids about certain values it helps them mold their decisions based on their learnings.

• Tell Them That It Is Okay to Make Mistakes: When a child makes a decision there will be consequences. Do not discourage him, instead allow him to grow.

At The Heritage School, considered one of the best ICSE schools in Dehradun, we ensure that students are involved in the process of decision making and encourage the parents to take this initiative as well.
